Description
Original Guaranteed Authentic 1860 letter home to mother. The letter details work at a rake factory including the pay, the tools used, and the working conditions. The letter also talks about the inauguration of Perry's Statue and Perry's Victory on Lake Erie (War of 1812). "I went to Cleveland on the 10th of Sept at the celebration of Perry's Victory on Lake Erie...The inauguration of Perry's Statue...was splendid. The thing (statue) cost ,000 and stands where the fountain used to in the center of the park which is called Perry's Park now."The letter is from a son, writing to his mother. It seems the son is not allowed to return home. he states..."I suppose you mean by the traveler on the US Rail Road. I see in Chester that you have been honored with a call by some good for nothing stinking lousy (N word). Pa has plenty of room for such fellows and plenty of money for some old pirate's family but none for his own children." It is signed by "Bristol" and dated Sept 23 1860. Condition as shown in photos.
