Confederate Gen. John Henry Winder Wants Court Martial Held In Sequence

JOHN HENRY WINDER (February 7, 1800 – February 21, 1865) served with distinction during the Mexican War and later as a Confederate General in the Civil War. He was noted for commanding prisoners-of-war camps throughout the South and for charges of improperly supplying the prisoners. He was also responsible for dealing with deserters, local law enforcement and setting commodity prices for residents of Richmond.  Winder also taught tactics at West Point in 1837, where Jefferson Davis was one of his students.
Offering a 7 x 8, two-page, front and back, ALS to Winder with his reply on the verso, n.d., n.p.
The sender writes to Winder. “I write to enquire of your wish any particulars case to be tried by the court martial today. If not, I will proceed with those I have in the regular order...”
Winder responds that he would like to have the trials sequenced in the order of receipt.
Winder’s response is in pencil and is light.
