    Description

    This 1862 letter is written from Camp at Liberty Church 15 miles from Fredericksburg by Thomas R Martin of the 10th VA Cavalry to his MA.  Dec 15, 1862 "This is the fourth day of the fight & from what I can learn both sides are about where they started. Our loss as of last night was stated at 1500 while that of the Feds must be three times as heavy as we have had every advantage in position. I am still with the wagons on account of my leg which has not yet gotten well Write soon direct to Richmond Albe Rangers 10th Va Cav Gen Wm H. Fitz Hugh Lee's Brigade.  Etc. He enlisted at North Garden 4/17/61 as Private. Re-enlisted  at Richmond 5/13/61. Promoted to 1st Cpl. Wounded in action at 5 Forks 4/1/61 and died before 1910.  Two page letter on 8 x 6 inch paper in pencil.
