    Description

See the photos of this very nice and rare Civil War letter and matching cover from March,1862.  Hard to find letters that match letterhead on envelope.  Letter was written by soldier B.Lukens to his sister, I think, Annie, in Philadelphia.  Neat stamp and cancellation on cover from the
"Seat of War".  A Colonel George W. Taylor commanded this outfit. Among other things, Lukens writes from Camp Fort Worth (near Alexandria, Virginia) and mentions "60,000 troops waiting on steam boats to move them", the Schuylkill River, General McClellan's headquarters and the fact that the general fell from his horse and scratched his face, a young man from Philadelphia in Lukens' tent had been shot and finally died, troops moving on the Potomac to Fortress Monroe, Kearney's Brigade, and more.
Despite all the misspellings, the letter is VERY legible, easy to read, and written in ink.  I acquired this, like almost all of my Civil War material, back in the 1980s.  We will never see another paired letter and cover like this one and this group is truly rare.
