    Description

15th Illinois Cavalry Civil War Letter Amos Kibbee. Condition is "Used".
Letter is written on October 22, 1862 by Amos Kibbee to Hattie Tuttle. He writes he is o. The convalescent lust and improving in health. He is somewhat weak yet and have a very lame side. The chief attraction of home , I really need a season of rest, of relaxation from labor and care. I should like to lie down to rest and feel that no danger threatened .
Surely if any soldiers are entitled to thanks of the country and joyous welcome home at last it will be the decimated ranks of the old first division of the army of the Tennessee. There are few others that has done much service and suffered so much loss. Major Stewart is organizing a regiment of old and new troops in which if he succeeds we will be included.
We suffered almost incredible hardships last winter many of us froze our feet, hands, ears and faces. It is harder on the cavalry than the infantry in the winter.
    Oct. 25th
There is considerable activity in camp now consequent upon arrival of new recruits, about 39 in number which makes us redpectsble size company of us again. Although we are glad to see the ranks fill up it’s a suggestive of a sad reflection. In another year we will need another 30 more. They can refill the ranks but they cannot replace the dead. Their memory still lives with us, their old companions in arms.
I report for duty in a day or two although I am not able to stand a long march yet. It is rumored in camp that we will be ordered to Ills.to be organized into a regiment.
Our company has 13 men on an expedition toward Ft. Pillow to look after some guerrillas that have been troubling some. They will not be apt. To find them as they are very cunning about hiding.
Signed A.W Kibbee to Hattie Tuttle.
